Decanter 90
Smoky aromas of spice and redcurrant, while the palate is vibrant with Summer fruit, black olive, cherry and seductive oak.by Decanter, DC, 2020.

Description
Grown on sunny slopes and harvested at the peak of ripeness, Syrah and Grenache grapes give the wine its deep ruby color. Extraordinary care during extraction accounts for its unctuous quality and rich mix of sunbaked black fruits. Astute levage (aging, fining, filtering, and blending) yields a round wine with soft ripe tannins and long finishes.

The Les Dauphins brand is inspired by the early 1920s, a time when Paris was enjoying a glorious period of post-war decadence known as Les Annes Folles (The Crazy Years!). Art, literature, cinema and music were thriving in France's capital and these creative minds also fell in love with France's iconic wines.
Les Dauphins is crafted by a small network of family winemakers from the Dauphin region of the Rhone Valley who joined forces to make delicious wines that fueled the creative revolution in bistros across Paris. The Dauphin supplied countless Parisian restaurants, and became extremely popular thanks to the exuberance and versatility of their wines, which paired beautifully with classic French bistro dishes.

Today, Les Dauphins continues to uphold this legacy of excitement and creativity with their fabulous portfolio of excellent red, white and rose wines from vineyards in the Southern Rhone. Headed up by talented winemaker Guillaume Valli, Les Dauphins favors those traditional grape varieties that have inspired palates for generations; Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. The result? Beautifully balanced, energetic and fruit-driven wines that are the ultimate accompaniment to quiet evenings in and special
occasions alike.

Patrick Dorneau’s family has been living in Fronsac since 1870. Four successive generations have worked on their vines, now comprising 52 acres divided between two estates. Patrick takes an uncompromising approach to vine management, constantly challenging himself to achieve the best possible quality while limiting yields. In the winery, he opts for long maceration with micro-oxygenation. He was among the first in the region to use this technique that is only possible on grapes boasting optimal phenolic ripeness. The strong personality of the terroir, enhanced by precise, effective methods, endows Barrail Chevrol with a stature that has earned it many awards in the wine guides.

These vines are planted in Fronsac molasses soils on a limestone fossil base. 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon matured on the fine lees with carefully-dosed oxygenation.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine awarded this an Editors' Choice and scored it 92 points saying "Bold black fruits and ripe tannins give this wine richness and a good structure. Black-currant fruitiness offers a promising indication for the future. Drink the wine from 2023."
